Towels for Azsia - a home dec project - first finish of 2026! from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Azsia is a special young lady heading off to college this week.

Azsia and her mother lived in the apartment above ours. These two delightful ladies brought a lot of joy to us while we were sheltering in place during the pandemic. Since I was working from home, I was able to take Azsia to school every day (she was in the 9th grade at the time), and it was fun talking with a teenager during the early morning drives.

Fast forward to 2025--she graduated from high school, and was accepted into (at last count) 26 different colleges and universities ...

2025–The Year in Review from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Ok, it wasn’t my best, but I’m not complaining.
Ah, goals. I make my lists while I’m amped up at the beginning of the year and, of course, life happens. I never add in the chaos factor when making my lists.

A lot of what kept me from getting more projects completed was living life in the moment. I always come back to this. The first year of retirement was like a vacation from everything, and I relished it. Have I missed work? Not even for a nano-second. But I have lolled a lot, said “Yes!” to ...

Merry Everything from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

 …to you and yours!

We celebrated Christmas Saturday evening, which is not our normal—our family was together thanks to FaceTime, and I’m grateful; this was our first in-person (for most of us) Christmas gathering in 4 years. Having it on Christmas Eve was more about convenience for everyone.  As a result, I got to spend a quiet Christmas day with the Hubs and even got to sew a bit, in addition to doing laundry.

While savoring my coffee Christmas morning, I thought about some things from the evening before that reminded me how easily distracted I have been ...

Little makes from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

Events pop up and I am often inspired to make something and have little time to meet my deadlines. And two of the events were in August.

First, Cindy celebrated an important birthday.  I had no idea what to do for her until the day before her birthday.  She recently purchased her first serger—a Bernette Funlock 64.  I made a serger mat with threadcatcher.  The pattern is from allpeoplequilt.com:

I took no photos.  Again, one of those lost in the moment times. But I FaceTimed with Cindy this weekend and asked her to take ...

A sweatshirt for my great-granddaughter from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

 Ah, the overthinking happened again.

Her first birthday is coming up.  I honestly had no plans to make anything; timing and all that.  Then I thought, what about a cute little sweatshirt for fall?  Then I remembered how hard it was to hoop the onesies and thinking about a size 2T sweatshirt got me to the idea of making a sweatshirt and embroidering the front before the shirt was sewn together.  How hard could it be?

Last Saturday the hardest part was finding suitable fabric.  Locally we have JoAnn Fabrics and Hobby Lobby.  My preferred local fabric store doesn’t ...

Happy National Quilting Day; Welcome, Spring; and—Project Bin 22 is empty! from A Prim and (not so) Proper Quilter

...even if it wasn’t all necessarily quilting projects.

Actually, there are some scraps left. And while I thought it would be fun to do something with those scraps, I decided against it because I want to move on to Project Bin 21.

And, this is the first time in several years that I am able to celebrate #NQD by QUILTING. And, it’s the first day of a long-awaited vacation and today may be my only chance to do it, so this will be a very short post!

The last item in PB22 was a bunch of patriotic fabrics ...
